UV Protection: How to Choose the Right One | Prevent Discoloration and Keep Your Cards Beautiful for Longer
share
Ultraviolet (UV) rays accelerate the fading of ink and the deterioration of materials. This can have an effect not only outdoors, but also indoors near windows or under strong lighting. Here, we will summarize the role of UV-blocking sleeves/loaders, guidelines for selecting them, and precautions for use from a manufacturer's perspective.

Why UV protection is necessary
Cards are a composite of paper and ink, and prolonged exposure to UV rays can cause color fading, loss of gloss, and material embrittlement. Surface treatments such as holograms and foil stamping are particularly susceptible to light reflection and heat, so it is safest to protect them with UV protection.
The role of UV protection products
- Reduces UV transmission: The loader and sleeve materials block some of the UV rays, slowing the fading process.
- Reduces both light and contact stress: Surface protection also reduces friction and the adhesion of fine dirt.
- Achieving both display and storage: While maintaining its appearance when viewed, it can also be easily converted for long-term storage.
Selection guidelines (common to sleeves and loaders)
- Check the labeling: Choose products that clearly state "UV protection" or "ultraviolet ray protection." If possible, check the numerical value (e.g., low UV transmittance) displayed.
- Transparency: The clear, transparent material is highly aesthetic, allowing the card's color and holographic texture to be seen.
- Material characteristics: Prioritize materials that are suitable for long-term storage, such as PVC-free and non-acidic.
- Thickness and rigidity: A moderate thickness contributes to a high-end appearance and stable handling. The impression of a loader on display changes depending on the frame thickness.
Usage notes
- Does not completely block out light: UV protection is only "reduced" and deterioration will occur if exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time, so consider the installation location.
- Even indoors, avoid being near windows: UV rays are also present in light that passes through glass. Block them out with curtains or blinds.
- Use in conjunction with temperature and humidity control: Temperature should be between 18 and 25°C, and humidity between 40 and 60%. Avoid high temperatures and humidity, or sudden changes.

summary
UV protection slows down the fading of cards and is a basic measure for ensuring both viewing and long-term storage. By selecting cards based on the notation, transparency, material properties, and thickness, and managing the installation environment and temperature and humidity, you can keep your cards looking beautiful for a long time.
